Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Easy / UK Standard Terms2.5” x 1” x 1.5” (7.5 x 4 x 4.5 cm)

As a kid, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was one of my favorite shows, and Michelangelo was my favorite ninja turtle because he was so funny! ???? Which one is your favorite?

What you need

  • 1.5 mm crochet hook
  • 1 sewing needle
  • Green yarn
  • Blue, red, orange or purple yarn Dark green yarn
  • Beige yarn
  • A pair of safety eyes (5 mm)

Instructions

Stitches

  • ch: chain
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • dc: double crochet
  • BLO: back loop only
  • inc: increase (2 dc in one loop)
  • dc2tog: pull yarn through loop, pull yarn through second loop, yarn over and pull through all loops

Head & Body

Start with green yarn.

Rnd 1: ch 2, work 6 dc into first ch - 6 st.
Rnd 2: 2 dc in each st around - 12 st.
Rnd 3: [2 dc in next st, dc in next st] 6 times - 18 st.
Rnd 4: [2 dc in next st, dc in next 2 st] 6 times - 24 st.
Rnd 5-6: (2 rounds) dc in each st around - 24 st.

Change to colored yarn (red, blue, purple or orange).

Rnd 7: BLO dc in each st around - 24 st.
Rnd 8: dc in each st around - 24 st.

Change to green yarn.

Rnd 9: BLO dc in each st around - 24 st.
Rnd 10-11: (2 rounds) dc in each st around - 24 st.
Rnd 12: [dc2tog, dc in next 2 st] 6 times - 18 st.

Fit eyes between rounds 7 and 8, positioning the start of rounds at the back of the head. Stuff head.

Rnd 13: [dc2tog, dc in next st] 6 times - 12 st.
Rnd 14: [dc2tog] 6 times - 6 st.
Rnd 15: 2 dc in each st around - 12 st.
Rnd 16: [2 dc in next st, dc in next st] 6 times - 18 st.
Rnd 17-23: (7 rounds) dc in each st around - 18 st. + 2 dc to recenter.

dc until you reach the center, then count 9 back from that stitch and sl st.

Legs

Continue from where you left off.

Rnd 24-25: (2 rounds) dc in each st to create a circle - 9 st.
Rnd 26: dc2tog, dc in next 3 st, dc2tog, dc in next 2 st - 7 st.

Change to colored yarn.

Rnd 27: dc in each st around - 7 st.

Change to green yarn.

Rnd 28: dc in each st around - 7 st.
Rnd: 29: dc2tog and fasten off.

For the other leg, start in the center and repeat instructions from Rnd 24.

Arms (Make 2)

Start with green yarn.

Rnd 1: ch 2, work 5 dc into first ch - 5 st.
Rnd 2: dc in each st around - 5 st.

Change to colored yarn.

Rnd 3: dc in each st around - 5 st.

Change to green yarn.

Rnd 4-7: (4 rounds) dc in each st around - 5 st.

Fasten off and leave around 6.5” (~17cm) of yarn to sew to the body.

Abdomen

Start with beige yarn.

Rnd 1: ch 2, work 5 dc into first ch - 5 st.
Rnd 2: 2 dc in each st around - 10 st.
Rnd 3: [2 dc in next st, dc in next st] 5 times and fasten off - 15 st.

Shell

Rnd 1: ch 2, work 5 dc into first ch - 5 st.
Rnd 2: 2 dc in each st around - 10 st.
Rnd 3: [2 dc in next st, dc in next st] 5 times - 15 st.
Rnd 4: [2 dc in next st, dc in next 2 st] 5 times - 20 st.
Rnd 6-8: (3 rounds) dc in each st around - 20 st.
Rnd 9: 2 dc in each st around - 40 st.
Rnd 10: Twist the shell, insert the hook in the inside wall and dc 20 - 20 st.
Rnd 11: [dc2tog] 10 times - 10 st.
Rnd 12: [dc2tog] 5 times - 5 st.

Stuff shell.

Rnd 13: dc2tog until closing the circle. Sew all parts together.

Belt & Eye Mask Tieback

Rnd 1: ch 40 and close off. Tie around the waist.

For the eye mask tieback: Ch 4, insert hook on the previous stitch, dc in the next 3 st. From there ch 4 and repeat the process. Attach to the back of the head.
